Hillary Clinton, wife of the former US President Bill Clinton has decided to run for the position once held by her husband. She’s comfortably placed first in the polls to win the Democratic leadership and many have already predicted her to be the first female US president. I’ll spare the details of her campaign which most people probably don’t care much about unless they hold interest in US politics (though I’m impressed by her emphasis to combat global warming and her commitment to pull of out Iraq; keep in mind that she voted for war in 2003).

The reason for my sudden interest is her closest advisor and aid is a Muslim named Huma Abedin. Born in Michigan and raised in Saudi Arabia, she completed her studies from George Washington University and interned as a part time aid to Clinton the Senator. Though I’m not sure what kind of advice is being given as Hillary is the most vocal supporter of Israel of all the presidential hopeful in the next US elections. Be it personal conviction or the pressures of the political climate, anyone running for the top position in the US government will be de facto pro-Israeli. But Hillary manages to take it to a whole new level. This is what her website says:

Hillary has steadfastly fought for Israel’s right to exist peacefully and to defend its people against terrorism. She has condemned Hamas’s rise to power. She has spoken out against the problem of anti-Semitism in Palestinian textbooks and condemned Iran’s conference on the Holocaust.

No mention of a Palestinian state anywhere.
